"Barn Owl"

Having myself rescued a great horned owl that had been weakened by rat poison it ate in a mouse and then crashing into and becoming enmeshed in a barbed wire fence, I know the value of both preserving the environment and helping injured animals in need. This owl, like the one I rescued, was unable to return to the wild itself, yet has raised many orphaned owls which were returned to the wild, thus providing an invaluable service to its own species in an age where the actions of concerned people are often the only chance for the survival of wildlife. Some people feel that injured animals that cannot be returned to the wild should simply be destroyed because it is not fair to them to have to live in captivity. If this philosophy were strictly adhered to, the world be losing many more species of wildlife annually than it already is.
